Toyota and Exxon link on development of engines, fuels and lubricants

Keywords Exxon, Toyota

The Toyota Motor Corporation and the Exxon Corporation have announced a long-term alliance to advance the science and technology needed for the next-generation automotive systems. The intention is to use the expertise of both organisations to accelerate the pace of development of advanced internal combustion engines and hybrids, together with the fuels and lubricants demanded by new technologies. The short-term goal is to reduce vehicle emissions, with a longer-term target of generating more efficient, next-generation power sources. Joint research teams from both organisations have already been working since mid-1995 to improve the performance of new lean-burn engines and to reduce particulate emissions from advanced diesel engines.
