Tribology test instrumentation and services

The Centre for Tribology (CETR) USA, one of the leading full service tribology laboratories in North America, has appointed PI-KEM as its UK Representative. CETR started offering testing and consulting services in 1993, and has since rapidly expanded to provide a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art computerised tribology testers and associated instruments. In-depth material evaluation can be performed on metals, ceramics, composites, coatings, oils, greases, and solid lubricants.

The latest Universal Micro-Tribometer model UMT offers unsurpassed accuracy, versatility and affordability, for the study of friction, wear and lubricant at both macro and micro levels. Precision measurements of stick-slip motion, nature of friction, friction force, coefficient of friction, wear rate, abrasive wear, adhesive wear, adhesion, contact resistance, capacitance and acoustic emission can easily be performed with very repeatable results. All data acquired during test can be logged into a computerised data acquisition system and are readily exportable for further statistical analysis.

The UMT has been designed for extensive use in tribology and materials research, and is widely utilised in chemical, petroleum, microelectronics, semiconductor, automotive, aerospace, machine tools and many other industries for both R&D and QC testing.

Further details of the CETR instrumentation are available from PI-KEM, which is now in its tenth year of supplying a wide range of advanced materials and laboratory equipment to both academic and industrial research centres.
