The Taiho Kogyo Tribology Research Foundation was formed towards the end of last year.

Its founder is Nobuo Fukuma and its purpose is to assist in research and exchange of information in industrial tribology, centred on the design, friction, wear and lubrication of interacting surfaces in relative motion in bearings and other mechanical components. Other objectives are to promote collection of technical data on tribology and to create a matrix of global Internet communication on tribology for the world in real time.

The Foundations directors are (in alphabetical order):

  • Dr Herbert S. Cheng – Professor Northwestern University.

  • Nobuo Fukuma – President, Taiho Kogyo Co. Ltd.

  • Masura Funai – Attorney at Law.

  • Dr Yoshitsugu Kimura – Professor, Vice President, Kagawa University.

  • Dr Ward O. Winer – Regents' Professor and Chair, Georgia Institute of Technology.

The President of Officers is Senjiro Shibata.

Scope of activities:

  • Support for tribology-related research and development.

  • Provide grants for symposium and research meetings and presentations on tribology, sponsored by scientific societies, universities, and public research agencies.

  • Honour outstanding work on tribology.

  • Assist in funding tribology-related research activities. Collecting and disseminating technical information through books, dissertations and publications.
