New Spectrum Oilexpress System for simple oil condition monitoring

Keywords: Oils, Monitoring

Oil condition monitoring reduces maintenance costs and improves productivity in industries operating large fleets of heavy- duty vehicles, plant machinery or military equipment. By monitoring oil quality, an early indication of engine component failure or lubricant breakdown is highlighted.

PerkinElmer's new Spectrum OilExpress System measures the build up of contaminants such as water, glycol or soot in the oil as well as monitoring any degradation in the oils' additives. By measuring the Infrared spectrum of the oil sample, key degradation and contamination properties can all be measured simultaneously. The system consists of a Spectrum One FTIR Spectrometer, an autosampler, and PC running Windows-based software. The complete system is fully validated and the analyst can choose, via the software, to use either or both of the standard analytical methods: the JOAP Method or the "Reference Oil Method".

The Spectrum OilExpress increases the productivity of the busy laboratory by reducing the sample analysis time by up to half. A unique sample-cell cleaning system greatly reduces the amount of solvent required for each analysis, saving on solvent purchase and disposal costs. The Spectrum OilExpress will also be of interest to laboratories providing contract services to the industries mentioned.
