Camshaft fixture solves testing problem

Keyword: Hardness testing

Indentec has designed a fixture to solve the problem of positioning camshaft lobes accurately for hardness testing.

Used on an Indentec digital Rockwell testing machine, the carriage-style fixture supports the camshaft positively curing the test and ensures that each test is made precisely at the selected point, generally on the cam peak.

It incorporates a centering device, which orientates the cam peaks to the perpendicular under the test indenter one at a time.

The carriage supports the camshaft between centres and guides it through the machine as the cam peaks are tested in turn. At each test position a built-in locator rotates the shaft to align the peak accurately under the indenter for the Rockwell test.

To ensure secure seating during testing, the locator is spring-loaded to apply a downwards pressure on the cam.
