Modular Machines offer maximum labelling versatility

The range of modular design labelling machines manufactured by Kosme offer future proofing solutions to labelling requirements. Designed specifically for the glass, PET and plastic bottles used in the brewing, wine, spirits and soft drinks markets, the machines can be used to quickly accommodate changing labelling requirements (Plate 1).

Where it could be uneconomical to purchase dedicated labelling machines for each specific label type application, the Kosme modular design allows a wide variety of plug-and-play options covering wet glue and self-adhesive labelling requirements.

The machines comprise a base station chassis which incorporates the bottle transport carousel mechanism. This chassis can be equipped with one or more fixed labelling stations if required, with additional locations for the attachment of further mobile or chariot stations. Up to six stations can be accommodated in total, which can be configured to provide the most practical solution to a particular labelling requirement. The combination of multiple neck, back and body labelling positions with either wet glue or self-adhesive labelling methods provides a high degree of versatility in operation which exceeds that provided by even conventional combination machines. The modular machine design also enjoys a smaller footprint than equivalent dedicated machines, making it a more practical proposition when replacing existing dedicated labelling machines.

The mobile chariots are equipped with quick-release connections for both power and compressed air supplies and are designated from the outset for either wet glue or self adhesive label applications. However, each chariot can be set-up using change parts for a multitude of label types and sizes, together with varying label positions. This degree of versatility makes the machine an obvious choice in markets where changing labelling requirements need to be quickly and economically accommodated.

Kosme can also supply specialised labelling machines dedicated to handling smaller containers. Typical applications include self- adhesive patch and wrap-around labels for round containers, together with front/back labelling of square containers. Tamper evident seals can also be accommodated for all container variations.

Both linear adhesive machines and compact rotary machines are available, designed for compact containers typically associated with the cosmetics/healthcare/pharmaceutical (CHP) markets. Many other products including food, drinks, toiletries (including complementary samples issued by hotel chains) and many other general commercial and even engineering products can be accommodated within containers of up to 2l capacity.

The label applicator heads used with this equipment are identical to those used with the larger Kosme machines. This ensures maximum economy, with labelling speeds of 2,500cph as generally applicable to these markets. However, higher speeds can be achieved with larger rotary machines involving redundant or automatic pre-decoiler groups, if required.

The Kosme company specialise in technologically advanced machines, designed to fully exploit the multitude of possibilities for self- adhesive label applications. Ease of application, together with a wide range of label materials and application formats ensure that the Kosme machines can fulfil the current needs and changing requirements for innovative packaging.

The machines are designed for ease of use, with minimum maintenance, while the simple construction also guarantees reduced running costs. However, their latest generation of electronic controls are both powerful and precise, with storage capacities for up to 99 labelling programmes.
