LINE Communications Group, a leading provider of e-learning and communications content and technology solutions announces its most recent round of work with BP. The latest e-learning project is the first of its kind for BP to include a combined internal and external audience of 17,000 staff worldwide. The programme is designed to re-engineer the way BP markets and sells lubricants. “BP Motion” is a comprehensive online course that will give sales consultants worldwide a quick and direct way to learn about the scientific and technological intricacies of lubrication. The whole course will consist of 14 modules covering every sector and industry and will be rolled out in multiple stages with the first stage released in November 2004.

The Motion course will be specifically branded for BP and its associated companies, Castrol and Aral using three different framesets which will all share common content. This will initially be distributed to 5,000 staff within BP Group. A further 12,000 staff across BP's global wholesale and distribution network will then gain access to the online course.

Luc van Haelewijn, Sales and Marketing Competency Development Manager at BP explains, “Motion is about the basics of lubrication, component technology and lubricants' performance levels. However, it is not technology for the sake of technology. It is about respect for the customer and delivering professional support. This is why it is important that the information is made available to our whole organisation in a quick and easy to handle format, at any time, in any place.

We chose LINE for its quick understanding and complete dedication to our business objectives for this project. They understood from the start the complexity of what we wanted to achieve and distributing this online course worldwide, making it accessible in six other different languages did not phase the team at LINE”.

Piers Lea, LINE CEO explains, “This project presents a huge challenge both from a technical and overall design perspective. It's important that BP staff and distributors can access the learning they need, when they need it and that when they do, it's stimulating enough to keep their attention. In this complex market, buyers are very well informed technically so BP employees who interact with customers need to know what they're talking about”.

The course will be based on knowledge from subject matter experts, such as those at the Castrol Group's International Technology Centre at Pangbourne, Berkshire, and is designed to be updated quickly and easily to incorporate the latest advances.
