Lubricants are an important element of any industrial process. But when protecting human health and the environment are factors, they should meet strict specifications. Food grade and biodegradable lubricants are the answer to safeguarding against the potential danger of lubricant contamination during machinery operation and maintenance.
To help in this lubrication minefield, Fuchs Lubricants (UK) PLC, the world's largest independent lubricant manufacturer, has exclusively developed the Water Industry Technical Services Handbook – or the “Blue Book” as it is more fondly known – and has now issued a revised edition on CD ROM.
With over 70 years experience and a comprehensive product range, Fuchs is at the leading edge of synthetic lubricant technology, understanding the importance of correct lubrication in ensuring the safe, effective and efficient performance of the public water supply and utilities industries.
The “Blue Book” CD ROM has been produced by Fuchs as a guide to the correct selection and management of lubricants for equipment used in the supply and treatment of water, containing an inventory of applications and equipment and offering food grade and biodegradable alternatives to conventional mineral oils for each. Some of the lubricants listed have already satisfied the criteria of the water regulations advisory scheme (WRAS), according to British standard BS 6920.
Since the late 1970s, Fuchs has also been pioneering the development of the environmentally friendly, biodegradable Planto range of lubricants, which are based on harvestable raw materials, such as rapeseed and sunflowers. These products have a high degree of biodegradability and, when spilled on land or in water, cause less environmental and human damage than those derived from mineral oils. They are therefore becoming more widely used in outdoors applications and are designed to minimise potential pollution.
