With this first issue of 2007, the Editor and staff of Industrial Lubrication and Tribology would like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers a happy and prosperous New Year.

Last autumn we were fortunate to attend the annual Leeds- Lyon Symposium. This event jointly organised by the University of Leeds in UK and the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees de Lyon in France. It was the 33rd time that this event had taken place with the venue alternating between the two academic institutions. Delegates to this symposium which concentrated on “Tribology at the Interface” represented over 20 different countries from many parts of the world. Many of the major research topics currently being covered today by academia were presented and discussed in detail including:

  • bio tribology,

  • fretting,

  • automotive,

  • tribochemistry,

  • elastohydrodynamics,

  • dry contact,

  • microtexturing,

  • applications,

  • wear,

  • nano-tribology,

  • coatings and fatigue, and

  • lubrication modelling.

A feature of this event is the wide range of both age and experience on display and the recognition that the symposium is an important learning tool for all of us lucky enough to be able to attend. If you are able to attend this event in Lyon next year then you will not be disappointed.

In this issue we are also very pleased to be able to present an international selection of papers. We include authors from Taiwan, Turkey, the West Indies, India, Malaysia, Iran and Poland.

We hope you will find the contents interesting and as usual we do welcome your feedback.
