Article Type: Editorial From: Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, Volume 61, Issue 5
In this issue, we are pleased to present papers covering different topics related to our field of interest.
In the “Industry news” section you will find mention of a piece of work carried out at Bournemouth University in the UK to improve the ease of launching lifeboats under emergency conditions. Although, the problem appeared simple is does seem that the work done will be of great benefit the lifeboat operators. This type of investigation, research and then design change is the very practical aspect of our work. Yet, it does seem that perhaps too much research is aimed at the purely theoretical aspects of tribology and lubrication and not enough thought is being given to basic daily problems that can be reduced by correctly focussed research.
What do you think?
