To cope with the growth sustained over recent years Meta Technology has moved to new premises. At the same time the company name has changed to Meta Vision Systems Ltd.

The move will result in double the production area with extended facilities for demonstrations of the Laser Probe 2000 seam tracking systems. The name change is part of the integration of Meta and the welding assets it recently acquired of Modular Vision Systems, the Canadian company. As part of the integration Modular has also changed its name to Meta Vision Systems Inc.

Although both companies offer laser-based seam tracking systems, the combined product range is complementary rather than competitive. Meta manufactured two standard systems in the UK: Laser Probe 2000, targeted at welding machines, and MTR, a system for robotic applications.

MVS, on the other hand, specialises in the development of one-off bespoke systems specified by more complex applications such as tube mills and the production of tailored blanks for the automotive industry.
