Security Robot Set to Guard Orlando from Explosion!

Keywords: Robots, Hazards

MobileRobots security assistant, PatrolBot, demonstrated new gas detection and visitor identification capabilities at ASIS 2005, the fifty first International Exhibition for security professionals. PatrolBot's new features also helped protect Orlando show attendees from explosion, intruders and other hazards, as well as providing surveillance and two-way audio. PatrolBot is the World's only off-the-shelf system that can create a floor plan of its workspace out-of-the-box and begin helping security staff the same day it arrives (Plate 3).

PatrolBot can make deliveries, investigate an intrusion and check for gas leaks as it patrols. Linked with a building's central command center, the robot can respond to alarms and verify the identity of potential intruders automatically. Guards remain safe and in command at the control center, with full access to building map, sensor data, robot's position, video surveillance and two-way audio communication via PatrolBot's MobileEyes™ GUI. PatrolBot's special eye-safe laser-rangefinder displays “footprints” of intruders walking by, even in darkness. PatrolBot verifies false alarms, instructing intruders to scan their IDs within a prescribed time to avert alarms and further investigation (Figure 1).
