"Evaluating managers' performance in companies in transition"

which appeared in The Journal of Management Development, Vol. 20 No. 1, 2001

Eric Cornuel became the new Director General of EFMD in January 2000. He served as Dean of the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research KIMEP (the premier Central Asian Management School) from 1997 to 1999, after a four-year assignment as Co-ordinator of HEC Institute for Central and Eastern Europe, HEC Graduate School of Management, Paris (1993-1997). His duties there encompassed the management of HEC programmes in Central and Eastern Europe, the creation of new programmes, the creation of new academic links, teaching in different institutions (Warsaw University of Technology Business School and Central School of Commerce, Warsaw, Poland; Academy of Foreign Trade, Moscow, Russia; Polar Academy, Saint-Petersburg, Russia, etc.).

From 1996 to the present, Eric Cornuel has been an Affiliate Professor at HEC Graduate School of Management, Paris. He has given lectures in different French academic institutions such as IEP Paris, Bordeaux Business School, Tours Business School, Tours State University, Limoges State University, from 1989 to 1991.

Eric's key qualifications are in the areas of strategy and international management, organisation, programming and evaluation, curriculum development, entrepreneurship and project management.

His business experience extends from the creation and management of his own companies, SHDDM/SCIMC, specialised in hydroelectric production (1983-1988), to various consulting missions for the Chamber of Commerce the Ministry of Housing and Equipment, Renault, etc. (1989-1997).

Eric Cornuel holds a degree of Sciences Po from IEP Paris, an MBA ISA from HEC Graduate School of Management, Paris and a DEA in Strategy and Management from Paris Nanterre University, together with a Doctoral Certificate in Strategy from HEC Graduate School of Management, Paris, and a PhD in Management, written on network organisations, from Paris Dauphine University.

Dr Pierre Kletz is a senior lecturer in the University Franµois Rabelais in Tours (France). Pierre Kletz has occupied the position of Academic Director of the Eastern and Central Europe Centre of HEC School of Management-Paris. From February until July 2000 he taught, as a visiting professor, at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem and then, during the academic year 2000/2001 he was a visiting research fellow of the Mandel Foundation (Jerusalem, Israel). His principal interests are in ethics and in the relationship between the social sciences and philosophy. His current scholarly work relates to transitions in emerging countries. In the past eight years, Pierre Kletz has written numerous articles which were published in some of the major English and French research Journals.

He has taught in numerous academic institutions, such as the University of Paris-Nanterre, the Hebrew University-Jerusalem, the Warsaw University of Technology, The Academy for Foreign Exchanges, Moscow and the Alma-Aty School of Management.
