Article Type: Retraction notice From: Journal of Services Marketing, Volume 24, Issue 1

The Editor and Publisher of Journal of Services Marketing wish to retract the article: “The perceptions of waiters and customers on restaurant tipping” by Chu-Mei Liu which appeared in Vol. 22 No. 2, 2008 of Journal of Services Marketing.

It has come to our attention that sections of the article (including much of the introduction, description of methodology, hypotheses, data analysis and conclusion) have been copied from an earlier article by Mary Harris which appeared in Journal of Applied Social Psychology: Harris, M.B. “Waiters, customers and service: some tips about tipping”, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Vol. 25 No. 8, 1995, pp. 725-44.

The journal submission guidelines make it clear that articles must be original and do not infringe any existing copyright. The Editor and Publisher sincerely apologize to the readers and the original author, Mary Harris.
