For the sixth issue of our second volume we have collected some articles that loosely have as their theme the use of workplace learning as a part of institutional training. We start off with a pedagogical piece by Sabina Siebert, Vince Mills and Caroline Tuff, studying the role of the learning group, followed by discussions of workplace learning in teacher training (by Ebru Zeynep Mugaloglu and Zerrin Doganca) and in social sector management training (by Janet McCray and Adam Palmer). There follows a paper by Christine Owen who has studied how the beliefs of instructors affect their strategies in instruction. In our “Professional Practice” corner we occasionally publish unreviewed pieces that we feel may be interesting for practitioners. Here there is a study of workplace learning courses in Irish third-level colleges by Margaret Linehan and Irene Sheridan. We hope you like the selection and are inspired.

We also have a couple of items of administrative news that we want to relay to you, dear readers. First, we have become a member of Committee of Publication Ethics. COPE is a forum for publishers and editors of peer-reviewed journals to discuss issues related to the integrity of work submitted to or published in their journals. We do not have any particular problem here with our authors, but the publishing field is currently expanding at a rapid pace, and the pressure of publishing is even greater on academics and students. So we feel there is a need to learn how to check submitted material and the options open to us with regard to potential misdeeds. More information is at http://publicationethics.org/

Furthermore, we have now officially gone online with our submission system. From now on, submissions to the Journal of Workplace Learning are made using ScholarOne’s Manuscript Central (see http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jwl). This system relieves us of the burden of our own system to keep track of papers and should lead to shorter review times. It should mean that fewer papers drop “behind the cupboard”, and will make it easier to check the status of a paper, and other benefits for authors. We hope you appreciate the benefits and take the time to learn to use the system (we have published through other systems before and feel that MC is at least as simple to use as all the others).

Now (we write this at the end of May) we are off to the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP) Annual Conference, which we recommend to readers as one of our own two main events of the year. We hope to see you there; for those who cannot attend, we hope you enjoy this issue.
