Data Mining II.

The editors of this book have invited authors who are experts in their field to present and analyze data mining applications in science, engineering, business, industry and medicine. The aim of these contributors is to utilize data mining applications as tools with which potential customers can be targeted.

The background methodology to data modelling and mining is discussed and such important topics as neural networks, and decision trees, clustering and classification techniques, as well as genetic algorithms are highlighted.

Data mining is, of course, concerned with the processing of information and new techniques will continue to emerge and be publicised in the future. The big problem seems to be one of selection in a field that is rapidly expanding. In this text the editors have encouraged contributors to describe how, for example, machine learning, which they believe to be a fast-growing artificial intelligence technology, can be used to develop models, techniques, and computer systems that can manipulate new information based on experience.

The book contains a vast amount of information itself with some 631 pages. It was obviously, at this price, not designed for individual ownership, but rather for the specialised department, company or library, where it would be a most useful acquisition.
