C. West Churchman – 1913-2004

The death is announced of the leading International philosopher C. West Churchman who was born in 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA and who died on Sunday, 21 March 2004 in Bolinas, California at the age of 90.

Readers will know of his enormous contributions to studies on social systems. He has been described as probably the most influential philosopher of the systems movement so far.

Professor Churchman took up the post of Professor of Business Administration at the University of California at Berkeley and remained there until his retirement in 1981. He retained his links with the university and also took up many other appointments whilst continuing to teach at Berkley until 1996.
