Everyone seems to quote The Turing Test which, of course, was aimed to determine if a man and a machine could have indistinguishable verbal behavior. It will be recalled that this test dates to a paper with the title "Computing machinery and intelligence" which was published in "Mind".
This book provides some of the earlier discussions of intelligence as proposed by Descartes and Julian Offrey de La Metterie. Turing's original article printed in "Mind" is presented and discussed. Other opinions about the test are also aired and illustrated by using articles and papers relevant to the discussion and produced by some well-know contributors.
Readers can expect a fascinating insight into the field that concerns our intelligence, the machine and the philosophy of what we now call artificial intelligence.
