25 Year Celebration of the International Federation for Systems Research (IFSR)

On April 19, 2006, at the University of Vienna, the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the foundation of IFSR was held.

It started with a presentation of the aims and activities of IFSR by Prof. Dr Jifa Gu (Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of IFSR) and Prof. Dr Gerhard Chroust (Kepler University, Linz, Austria, Secretary – Treasurer of IFSR).

This was followed by the Ross Ashby Memorial Lecture: “Systems theory-a world view and/or a methodology” by Prof. Dr Matjaz Mulej (Vice-President of IFSR, Co-President of the 12th International Congress of Cybernetics and Systems of WOSC, 2005).

The rest of the day was devoted to three Round tables: “The future of systems sciences and the IFSR: trends, challenges and plans” “25 years of the IFSR: a retrospective”, “25 years of the IFSR: achivements and projects” with the participation of Gerrit Boekstra, Gerhard Chroust, Ranulph Glanville, Jifa Gu, Amanda Gregory, Gary S. Metcalf, Matjaz Mulej, Franz Pichler, G.A. Swanson, Robert Trappl (President of the Austrian Society for Cybernetics), Gerard de Zeeuw ...

At the board meeting of IFSR, on the evening of the same day, the new officers of IFSR (2006-2007) were elected: President: Prof. Matjaz Mulej, 1st Vice-President: Prof Jifa Gu, 2nd Vice-President: Prof. Gary S. Metcalf, Secretary-Treasurer: Prof. Gerard Chroust.
