Preface

Article Type: Preface From: Kybernetes, Volume 39, Issue 3

The publishers, Editorial Advisory Board and the Editors of Kybernetes are most grateful to Dr Mark Bishop who is the Professor of Cognitive Computing at Goldsmiths, University of London, UK, for accepting the invitation to be the Guest Editor of this special issue. This compilation presents studies that are concerned with the work of the British mathematician Alan Turing. Turing’s “Imitation game” now referred to as the “Turing test” has become a popular subject for discussion and indeed offers a challenge to all aspiring researchers in this field.

Dr Bishop has invited contributions from authors who have a special interest in Turing’s work and who are acknowledged experts. They all participated in the 2008 Symposium of the Artificial Intelligence and the Simulation of Behaviour Society (AISB), held at the University of Reading, UK, on the Turing test.

We would like to thank them for their endeavours and for providing such authoritative studies of what has become such an intriguing subject.

This has, in consequence, been dedicated to this special theme and our usual regular journal sections will appear in later issues of the volume.
