Steering into the future – personal greetings from Professor Ranulph Glanville

Article Type: Anniversary greetings From: Kybernetes, Volume 40, Issue 9/10

I am fortunate to have three roles, each of which gives me the privilege of expressing my gratitude for Kybernetes, in this, its celebratory issue. Kybernetes is a remarkable journal, and we have no other like it. It has served us for 40 years, all the time striving to provide cover wherever we take our subjects, and the changes that our research (and the reporting of that research) causes us to propose.

As a member of the editorial board, I see the expansion of the range of interests that the journal has accommodated, leading to an ever-broadening palette.

As a guest editor, I know of the skill, integrity, care and supportiveness of the editorial staff: the editor-in-chief and his team, and the production team (taking many forms and passing from hand to hand) who bring the raw material of the journal to its final, polished form and who guide its quality.

As President of the American Society for Cybernetics (ASC), I appreciate the constituencies that the journal addresses, and the way it has moved to recognize second-order cybernetics, design and other areas that interest our society.

For all this, I am grateful. And, I am honored to be allowed to be given space and the opportunity to say this.

Thank you Kybernetes, and all who work with you. Please keep steering us into our future.
