This issue is very heavy in content with conference reports. We recognize that many are intense reading experiences, but this confirms the growing sense that conferences and their reports and proceedings are now mainstream sources of information sharing and where our colleagues share their ideas and experiences of work they have launched in recent months. As readers, you will have a wide choice in content from conferences around the globe as we present reports from Poland, Crimea, Germany, and the major professional meetings held in North America over the last few months, including some of those international groups who only occasionally meet in the USA. The summer is usually a very busy schedule of annual meetings and this year was no exception.

Due to the volume of timely conference reports we had to dispatch with the feature articles we like to promote in every issue. We promise that in the next issue there will be some exciting content of technology applications that are going to really inspire you, including some updates on developments of the "scholarly portal", and academic library science technology assessments in South Africa, to peak your curiosity.

To confirm the global spirit: our library spotlight in the "Around the World to Libraries" column takes us to Italy where we learn how the Bologna Central Library launched its document supply service. We have a terrific update on eBooks from our columnist Howard Falk. Stuart Hannabuss gives us some valuable insights about employee law regarding intellectual property rights, an increasingly complex and important issue as new developments happen due to many reasons, some out of the control of employees. The usual New & Noteworthy, New Publications and Calendar complete this issue.

As we celebrate the first anniversary of September 11 with great reflection we know that this past year has been like none other and we hope that this finds everyone safe and well.
