We invite you to another good read full of conference experiences, short features and new columns. With organizations at the public and private levels around the globe facing economic challenges and staffing reconfigurations we detect that many of our contributors are increasingly too busy to write for us. There have been world-wide concerns that preoccupy each of us, with the War recently concluding in Iraq, responding to the outbreak and spread of SARS and wondering what the implications are for safe travel in the coming months. Still, we want to continue to encourage you to take the time, escape from the organizational turmoil and continue your creative endeavors by writing and sharing with your colleagues. It is exactly at these times that we are so keen to have your talents – we need to continue to give our readers that professional "lift" and energy they get when they read about experiences of other colleagues and institutions.

Uncertainty and ambiguity are what characterize our work environments these days but we still sense a fervent desire to serve and work with library users wherever they are. In this issue you will find conference reports from the Tech Ed conference in Southern California, Digital Reference teleconference and a few short case studies among our features. The classroom of the future and the use of weblogs in teaching highlight this issue.

Our columns include a trip to a relatively new institution, Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey and we have the conclusion of Gerry McKiernan's trilogy on Scholar-based Publishing Initiatives, the latest in e-Books and related technologies from Howard Falk and a new list of publications, news and events.

We assume that a busy and productive schedule of the next season's professional meetings will take place in the coming months and we look forward to bringing you coverage of issues that are raised there.
