This summer issue is short and sweet as many of our contributors and reporters have been busy at summer conferences in North America and Europe and we look forward to the next issue containing the beginning of many important conference reports.

Conference Reports herein are rather slim in this issue and include one for the American Society for Engineering Education annual meeting in Portland, Oregon. Now that is a great conference city – read the report and consider going there for a vacation or recommending that as the next venue for whatever conference you for which you can influence the scheduling.

The features are interesting and promote some new contributors. Amber Israelsen impressed us with her winning essay in our campus upper division writing competition in the arts and humanities. We are happy that LHTN is the source of her first publication and we hope that you find her insights in "The Internet: Benefits of the Next Communication Frontier" equally provocative for an undergraduate student. We also have an informative contribution from Robert Williams. His article provides an overview of terminal services: what it is, how it works, and the benefits of utilizing this technology.

The "Around the World" column again takes us to Nigeria where we look at how the staff at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology in Port Harcourt, Nigeria established a new Information Technology Centre and its role on the campus in providing training and instruction, administrative computing and access to the Internet. As we continue to cover many issues about ICT the digital divide among developing countries remains defined and we can more fully appreciate the different vantage points and experiences we have in more mature economies. This is a real success story.

Our next issue promises to be full of content from many conferences – the New Books list will be long and plentiful and we will have seen many new products in the exhibitions. We expect to learn about new IT applications in libraries and renew acquaintances with our friends and colleagues and look forward to sharing them with you.
