This issue is truly global. It is also being compiled in the middle of the North American summer conference season for the library and information community. Adrenalin is running high as many technology issues are being refined, and a call for advocacy, support, and curiosity about what is happening in the information industry takes place.

We have many conference reports from around the world:

  • 2005 Conference of Nigerian Library Association, Delta State Region.

  • Additional conference coverage from the Electronic Resources Library conference.

  • Asia Pacific Conference on Library and Information Education and Practice (ALIEP).

  • AAAS Science & Technology Policy Forum.

  • ALA Legislative Day.

  • Off-Campus Library Services Conference.

  • Quality Assurance and the Management of Nigerian University Librarians Workshop.

We have a feature about disc-based audio-video technology where Scott Piepenburg explores how this technology is employed. There is also an introduction to the HumaniTech® program at the University of California, Irvine School of Humanities, by its director, Barbara Cohen in which she defines it as a discipline centered approach to technology with strong partnerships across the campus.

Our next couple of issues will continue to be conference intensive with many insights about trends in a variety of library settings. We welcome your contributions to share insights from specific sessions or the organizational culture of a conference. We seek new ideas about coverage, subjects for interviews, short features and libraries to spotlight in our "Around the world" column for coming issues.

The editors want to note that our interview with our contributing editors, Heidi Hanson and Zoe Stewart Marshall which ran in the May 2006 issue contained misspellings of Ms Hanson's name. We extend apologies to her.
