80th anniversary of Library Review

80th anniversary of Library Review

My sincere thanks to Nick Joint and his editorial team for their excellent work over the past four years. I am delighted that Nick will continue to be contributing to the journal with his new editorial articles in the Antaeus series. It is an honour to be taking on the editorship of Library Review in this special year when the journal marks its 80th anniversary.

Library Review began its life in Spring of 1927, and was under the sole editorship of the founder Robert D. MacLeod for 36 years. Over the course of 2007 we will be featuring articles selected from the archives of the journal, and asking current librarians and academics to reflect on the articles and their relevance for today's library and information professional. We begin that process in this issue by featuring Robert D. MacLeod's original editorial from the first issue, including his hopes for the future of the journal.

I hope you enjoy the glimpses we will see into the history of the journal and the concerns of librarianship evidenced within its pages over the past 80 years.
