Conference "Food Security in the 21st Century"

6-7 October 2008, London, UK

“Food security in the 21st Century” forms part of the Chatham House research project “UK Food Supply in the 21st Century: The New Dynamic,” and seeks to consider both the short and long-term issues surrounding global security. Faced with riots over soaring food prices, governments worldwide are struggling to ensure security of supply for future populations, and many proposed short-term solutions are predicted to be counterproductive in the longer term. This conference will raise several key lines of discussion, including the likely restructuring of the food industry (in the UK and globally), the role of science and technology, and the need for changes in government and EU policy and their effects.
