Exports from the UK

Exports from the UK

Over the last ten years the UK food and drink export market has nearly doubled in value to £9.933 billion. However, the last 18 months has seen exports marginally decrease due to the strong pound, economic instability in a number of key markets and the ban on British beef. But despite these trading difficulties, certain markets have performed well in 1998. For example, UK food and drink exports to Italy increased by £42.3 million (27 per cent) and an increase of £36.7 million (12 per cent) was recorded to Spain. Exports of breakfast cereals are up by £10.2 million (7 per cent) continuing a ten-year annual growth. Exports of fish have increased by 13 per cent, beer by 8 per cent and Cheddar cheese by 5 per cent.
