Ten million pounds for colorectal cancer services
This new grant was announced recently by the Health Minister, Baroness Hayman who said that the Government were making the same amount available to colorectal services that had been made available to breast cancer services. Colorectal cancer is the second most common form of cancer causisng nearly 20,000 deaths in the UK every year. The grant will be used to fund initiatives which will have direct benefits for patients ranging from developing endoscopy services to additional fast track clinics and investing in additional equipment and improvements in pathology. It will also speed up diagnostic services, reduce the time patients have to wait for treatment and improve the quality of care delivered by specialists.
