Adoption – a new approach

This is the title of a White Paper which Health Secretary Alan Milburn introduced to put the needs of children at the heart of the adoption process and speed up the time it takes for children to find new families. Mr Milburn said that every child should have the best possible start in life and children do best when growing up in a stable, loving family. In 1999 there were 2,400 children waiting to be adopted needing the stability of a loving family. Over 28,000 children in the UK have been in care continuously for more than two years. These children need a better chance in life and adoption can provide this. Copies of the White Paper can be bought from The Stationery Office, price £8.15.
