Sun, sea and salmonella
Sun, sea and salmonella
Thousands of UK holiday makers (40 per cent of us) have suffered from food poisoning while abroad. New research conducted by The Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph has shown that those countries closest to home are the worst offenders, with one in six travellers afflicted when on holiday in Europe. The survey found that the worst culprits are paella and tapas as thousands of us head for Spain on vacation. Even on home soil nearly one in five people claim to be ill, with London having the worst food of all UK destinations, followed by Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. One in six Britons claim that France offers the safest food. Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong are all praised for their culinary delights while the USA follows close behind, with the appetizers of San Francisco being applauded. The survey was based on a poll of 20,000 readers of the two papers.
