New range from Nutricia addresses the need to aid recovery

Nutricia Life, a new division of Nutricia Clinical Care, has developed NutriPlus, a nutritional drink and bar specially formulated to help aid the recovery process. The new NutriPlus range contains a balance of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals needed to help individuals, both young and old, meet their nutritional needs during and after illness.

Nutriplus is aimed at those who are convalescing and is available in a number of formats to suit the differing needs of specific patients groups: an easy-to-prepare "Drink Mix" (just add milk), a "Ready To Drink" can and a chocolate bar. Nutriplus offers a convenient nutritional solution to people with poor appetite recovering from illness, as well as those who may require additional nutrients in their diet. Good nutrition can help restore energy and encourage an appetite and interest in food.

A recent survey indicates that nearly 50 per cent of people across the UK do not recover effectively from minor illnesses and are falling ill again as a consequence. With 40 per cent of people admitting that they do not look after themselves properly during sickness, the NutriPlus Nutritional Advice Council (NNAC) has produced Your Guide to Good Nutrition and Recovery, to help people understand more about the importance of meeting the body's nutritional needs. The leaflet provides information and advice about how to help aid the recovery process through improved diet and how to help return to and stay in good health.

Emily Cruwys, Senior Dietitian at St Richards Hospital, Chichester and member of the NNAC, comments, "A nutritionally balanced diet is not only important to maintain good health but also plays a crucial role in helping to aid and sustain recovery from illness. It is essential that patients can receive nutritional information and advice that can be easily incorporated into the diet to help regain energy, strength and appetite to help aid the recovery process."

To receive your free copies of Your Guide to Good Nutrition and Recovery to offer patients, please write to Harvard Health, Suite 2, Cobb House, Oyster Lane, Byfleet, Surrey KT14 7DU, UK.

The new Guide to Good Nutrition and Recovery accompanies the launch of NutriPlus, a nutrition drink and bar, which provides complete nutrition to help aid recovery. Good nutrition can help restore energy and encourage an appetite and interest in food.

The composition of NutriPlus has been developed by State Registered Dietitians aware of the nutritional needs of individuals in health and illness. Each serving of NutriPlus Drink, Mix and Bar contains at least 30 per cent of the food labelling Recommended Daily Allowances (RDAs) set for adults for vitamins and minerals. It also contains six antioxidant nutrients (vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, manganese, copper, selenium), which are important in helping to support the body's natural defences.

NutriPlus Drink Mix is available in strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and original flavours (NutriPlus Original can also be added to savoury foods like soup). NutriPlus Ready to Drink Can is available in strawberry and vanilla flavours and Nutriplus Bars include chocolate fudge brownie and chocolate orange crunch (two bars per pack).

NutriPlus supplies energy and protein; a serving of NutriPlus Drink or Mix provides average 240kcal and 12.6g protein and one serving of the NutriPlus Bars provides average 230kcal and 13g protein.
