Brakes Foodservice Solutions – healthier menus

So what is a healthy diet? There are several key elements – overall, food should be low in fat, salt and sugar, the right amount of energy should be consumed and at least five portions of fruit and vegetables should be eaten a day. Caterers offering a wide variety of food will help to ensure a healthy balanced diet for their customers.

Many people have made simple changes to their diets to eat more healthily but these changes are not yet widely reflected in catering. As more that a third of all food eaten is provided by caterers the need to offer healthy choices on menus is essential.

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) and Cancer are two of the major health problems in the UK, both are related to diet and food. Additionally, obesity can be a cause of these illnesses but also leads to further health problems such as Type II diabetes.

Overall, small changes in menus, recipes or cooking methods can be beneficial to consumers. Brakes can help you.
