MIP Technologies reported first commercial scale-up in production of Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs).

New MIP breakthrough promises process level production for companies needing high performance selective separations in chemical, pharma, food, and environmental industries.

MIP Technologies AB, a developer of MIPs for analytical, preparative and process scale separations, announced today that it has supplied a multinational corporation with MIP material for solid phase extraction at the kilogram level. Typically, MIPs are produced at the gram level by the majority of users in the R&D community.

"This is a major milestone for the technology", commented Anthony Rees, CEO of MIP Technologies. "Our extensive efforts in the development of robust methods for synthesis of MIPs at the kilo level have now created a path to production at the Process level. This capability will propel us into the forefront of specialist separation companies".

"Our ability to produce multi-kilogram quantities of MIPs in single batch reactors will enable us to supply our customers with sufficient quantities of separation materials for any studies at the pilot scale", said Dr Ola Karlsson, VP of Production at MIP Technologies. "We are already expanding further our capabilities so that batch quantities of 3-5 kg per week will be possible".

Molecular imprinting, a polymer nanotechnology, makes possible the creation of artificial receptor sites within stable polymer materials allowing the provision of innovative solutions for the Separations market. The market covers a wide range of activities, from analytical solid phase extraction products through to large scale solutions for selective extraction on an industrial scale.
