LACA Conference - 19 February 2007 - unravelling the Training Maze
This one day seminar held at the Hilton Birmingham Metrolpole was organised by LACA's (Local Authority Caterers Association) Training and Development Committee.
The conference:
- •
explained in detail the new qualifications for school caterer's at levels 1, 2 and 3;
- •
provided examples of case studies of local authority caterers and colleges where such training has been used;
- •
also provided some practical help and support in how to access the providers and accreditation bodies of the qualifications.
With a top quality attendance, delegates had the opportunity to discuss and debate both the presentations and the new ideas they generated, and to network with colleagues from around the industry.
For anyone involved in training school caterers: area/middle managers, training officers and managers – this was a useful seminar.
Speakers included:
- •
Tony Holyland from People first who gave a presentation on an overview of the qualifications and later discussed accessing information and funding.
- •
Training providers from Bristol and Bournville College provided examples of case studies.
- •
Mabel Blades discussed the development of the level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications for school caterers as well as other nutritional qualifications from various bodies.
- •
Irene Carroll, the national chair of LACA, discussed regional training centres.
In the afternoon there was a panel debate from representatives of People's first, the FSA, DfES, the school food and healthy schools team and the national chair of LACA.
