Vegetarian Chefs of the Future Contest

Article Type: Food facts From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 39, Issue 4

The Cordon Vert School is on the look-out for the new vegetarian chefs of the future and is offering them the chance to show their potential by taking part in an exciting culinary competition. The Vegetarian Chefs of the Future Contest is open to all chefs, vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. It will culminate in the finalists’ live cook-off, with two winners being named Vegetarian Chefs of the Future 2009.

Each winner will receive a prize package. This will include a personalised chef’s jacket, a year’s membership to the Vegetarian Society, a vegetarian hamper of products and a scholarship for a Cordon Vert Diploma.

The first stage of the competition involves chefs submitting a three-course meal which is suitable for vegetarians. The submission will need to include a menu, ingredients, weights and measures, detailed descriptions of each dish and presentation notes. Competition finalists will then be expected to produce their menu at the cook-off held at the Cordon Vert School in Cheshire.

Katie Douglass, Catering Services Manager, said: “This contest really gives chefs a chance to shine creatively but it’s about potential and knowledge too. I know how difficult it often is to get the professional training needed to survive in the catering industry and this winner’s package could really give a chef a brilliant start or boost to their career. It’s a chance to learn from the experts, there’s nothing to lose”.

The Vegetarian Society is a registered educational charity, promoting understanding and respect for vegetarian lifestyles.
