Telephone health service offers support to more Birmingham patients

Article Type: Food facts From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 40, Issue 3.

A popular telephone healthcare programme is widening its net to offer one-to-one support and advice to even more patients in east and north Birmingham. A new “monitor” level of membership means that more people are now eligible to join the Birmingham Own Health service. Monitor level membership is aimed at people who need less intensive support than traditional members do. As well as being eligible with the other long-term conditions covered by Birmingham Own Health – such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), stroke/TIA or chronic kidney disease – people can also join at monitor level if they have high blood pressure or if their GP says that they have more than a 20 per cent risk of developing cardio vascular disease.

To find out more about Birmingham Own Health, people should ask a GP or other health professional in east or north Birmingham or go to: www.birminghamownhealth.co.uk
