Cancer risk
Article Type: Food facts From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 41, Issue 1
The research from the National Cancer Institute in Rockville, USA, studied 300,000 men and women aged between 50 and 57. It specifically accessed the relationship between their intake of processed meat (like bacon, sausages and ham) and the incidence of bladder cancer. Those who ate most processed meat were 30 percent more likely to develop bladder cancer than those who ate the least.
The study suggests that certain types of salt which are used in curing the meat are associated with bladder cancer.
