Digestive Disorders Federation meeting joint with BAPEN 17-20 June Liverpool

Article Type: Conference reports From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 42, Issue 6

This was the first joint meeting of these two organisations. BAPEN is the British Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and is an organisation devoted to nutrition.

The meeting was well attended by mainly gastroenterologists, doctors, nurses and dietitians.

While the main body of the meeting involved clinical and surgical procedures, there were excellent presentations on aspects of nutrition. This included all types of disorders including:

  • Nutrition assessment.

  • Crohn’s disease.

  • Liver disease.

  • Cancer.

  • Inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Enteral nutrition.

I found the accompanying exhibition of great interest as it had numerous pieces of information on topics such as IBS, nutritional supplements, reflux, malnutrition screening, gastroplasty, etc. and which were of great use. Many of the stands were particularly helpful as they provided information which were often designed to be given to patients.

There was also an excellent poster session with cutting edge of research with a predominance of nutrition.
