Article Type: Editorial From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 43, Issue 4

Several papers in this issue of Nutrition & Food Science are focussed upon beverages, proving an exciting range of papers.

Fluid is vital for health and really the key feature of a healthy diet as no one will survive long without it. Dehydration can lead to all sorts of problems and is poorly recognised. Chronic dehydration can persist for many years and contributes to bowel problems, headaches and poor concentration.

This is recognised in children in school with an encouragement for them to take a water bottle to school and drink plenty of water.

Water fountains are evident in many work places but workers often forget to take water due to busy schedules.

For sports people water can contribute to the difference between winning and not being placed.

Those who are elderly or in hospital are encouraged to take adequate fluid to aid recovery.

This editorial is being kept short as it will provide extra pages for more papers to be included.
