Housing experts advise Government on policy

A new panel of housing experts to advise on Government policy has been announced today by rousing Minister, Nick Raynsford.

The informal "housing sounding board" includes housing professionals and academics and will inform Government policy making.

The housing sounding board is made up of: Richard Best OBE (Director, Joseph Rowntree Foundation), Graham Farrant (Director of Housing, Birmingham City Council), Steve Hilditch (Consultant, Paddington Consultancy Partnership) Chris Holmes (Director, Shelter), Steve Mycio (Deputy Chief Executive, Manchester City Council), Dr Anne Power (Reader in Social Policy, London Sohool of Economics), Claire Tickell (Chief Executive, Stonham Housing Association), Peter Williams (Deputy Director General, Council of Mortgage Lenders) and Steve Wilcox (Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Housing Policy, University of York).

The sounding board will meet monthly, and its discussions will be confidential, reflecting normal Government practice on advice to ministers. Members serve on a personal basis and are unpaid.

Nick Raynsford is continuing the practice begun by Hilary Armstrong, who was Housing Minister before moving to become Minister for Local Government and the Regions.

Mr Raynsford said the housing sounding board will help ensure that Government policies are soundly based.

It will give me a valuable opportunity to discuss key issues with a wide range of outside experts, including matters that might be included in the forthcoming Housing Green Paper. I enjoyed its first meeting this week and look forward to future ones.
