The definitive guide to retail and leisure parks Shopping meets Leisure 2001 is being sponsored this year by FPDSavills Commercial. The review aims to include every known retail park, leisure park and major leisure scheme in the UK. This includes those currently trading or scheduled to open by 2004. This is the second year the review has been produced and it is the only publication to supply such detailed information – with additional data included in the 2001 review.
On the back of the success of the first issue, published last year and widely used throughout the property industry, extensive research amongst owners, agents and tenants is being conducted by FPDSavills in conjunction with TW Research Associates. The research will tackle issues such as planning consents, peak rents and nearby developments. The number of schemes that will be reviewed exceeds 1,100, which is up on last year's figure of 900.

This type of information and research is not available elsewhere in this format. In the past, it has been very frustrating not to have a point of reference specifically for the retail warehousing and leisure sectors. This publication is just one of the indicators that both these sectors are now an established part of the property scene, and are here for the long-term.

The 2000 review highlighted the emergence of 24 combined Retail and Leisure Parks and listed 20 other Retail Parks with a cinema, 15 with bowling alleys and ten with health and fitness centres. It will be interesting to see how these numbers have grown when this year's review is finalised.
