3rd AfRES conference

3rd AfRES conference

The Joint 3rd AfRES/TIVEA/RICS Foundation conference on Real Estate in Africa took place on 23 to 25 October 2001, Arusha, Tanzania.

The need for an African Grouping of Real Estate Societies for promotion of the real estate profession in Africa has been one of the cherished hopes of many practitioners and academics in Africa. Over the last two decades, we have witnessed the formation of viable groupings on several continents. As the world continues to shrink into a village, national institutions need to forge relations with one another. Sharing information on real estate and in the training of young professionals in real estate is paramount if Africa is to prosper from its well-endowed natural resources.

The African Real Society (AfRES) as a continent-wide organisation has, since its founding in 1997, cherished that desire of promoting networking, research and education among property professionals across Africa. AfRES is affiliated to the International Real Estate Society (IRES) and sister associations in the Pacific Rim, Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America and an increasing number of African societies such as The Tanzania Institution of Valuers and Estate Agents (TIVEA). AfRES plans to reach as many real estate professionals as possible and has already organised two international conferences and several seminars that attracted participants from all over Southern Africa.

AfRES and TIVEA seek to strengthen ties amongst African national societies and professionals so that one day we can boast of a truly continental African Real Estate Society.
