Waterborne curing agent for anti-corrosive coatings

Keywords Corrosion prevention, Curing, ICL

Manufacturer of specialist resins and polymers, Industrial Copolymers Limited (ICL) has introduced an advanced waterborne poly (amine) adduct curing agent for anti-corrosive epoxy primers.

Developed specifically to enable formulators to produce high specification, zero VOC coatings with excellent chemical resistance and adhesion, Incorez 149 claims far superior low temperature cure than alternative waterborne epoxy curing agents. According to ICL it has rapid drying and hardness development, a long pot life, low colour, high solids content of 75 per cent and good salt spray and Prohesion™ test results, it is compatible with most anti-corrosion pigments, including phospho-silicates, zinc phosphate and ion exchange pigments. Other benefits claimed include a clearly identifiable end of pot life and economical formulation with a PHR of just 70.

The product's reportedly excellent anti-corrosive properties are thought to be attributed to the very high cross-link density created with both liquid and solid epoxy dispersions, combined with its inherent flexibility to prevent cracks forming in the coating.

Incorez 149 is believed to be ideal for the production of coatings for mild and galvanised steel, including demanding marine and coastal applications such as bridges, ships and offshore installations. Its low temperature cure properties are also said to make the resin suitable for use in floor and wall coatings, clear lacquer dust seals and coatings for wood or aluminium applied under cold conditions.

The Incorez 149 grade forms part of the 140 Series of waterborne epoxy curing agents. Other products in the range are designed for applications including floors, walls, textiles, epoxy cements, all purpose primers and impregnation coatings. Full technical details and data sheets are available on request.
