A small batch paint supply system using portable paint mix containers has been developed for Peugeot Cars by Inlac UK the Coleshill-based material handling division of Durr.
Fully integrated into Peugeot's existing mainstream 17-colour paint application spraybooth, the SVO (Special Vehicle Orders) system provides facilities to tap an additional two base colours on demand. Each colour line can be charged with the correct amount of paint for short runs to meet specific customer requirements.
Paint is transferred from a common holding area in 100 litre portable mix sets. Designed for quick turnrounds between multiple colour painting runs, the SVO system features an innovative cleaning arrangement, using the paint mix pump connections to purge the entire distribution system economically and without waste.
In commenting on the new installation, paint facilities supervisor for Peugeot Cars, Karen Baxter, said: "As a customer-oriented company, this flexibility gives us two significant business advantages. We are now able to fully exploit the variety and availability of exciting new colours in the marketing of limited edition versions of our new 206 series."
The SVO system was designed, installed and commissioned by Inlac within 12 weeks from the receipt of order. A turnkey contract, worth approximately £190K, the programme included full CDM (contract design and management) responsibility.
Work on-site included the installation of an SVO transfer system within the existing paint mix room and the construction of a local SVO mix room with two additional distribution lines and space reserved for future expansion to four lines. Inlac has supplied four portable SVO mix sets; one duty and one stand-by for each of the two colour lines.
