Industrial Copolymers Limited (ICL), the Preston-based manufacturer of specialist resins and polymers for the coatings, adhesives and sealants industries, has extended a successful run of scooping business awards by this time being declared the winner of a fiercely contested export award.

The company was announced the winner of "The Chamber of Commerce Award for Export Achievement" at LAWTEC's 1999 Lancashire Area West Business Awards. The annual awards ceremony is designed to recognise commitment to business excellence and celebrate success across the region. Senior BBC presenter, Felicity Goodey, was the compere for the evening and (ex) England Cricket Coach, David Lloyd, was the after-dinner speaker (Plate 12).

This accolade forms part of a long line of coveted awards won by ICL. In the past 12 months alone, the company has been a Duke of Westminster Award winner and was acknowledged by Industry Minister John Battle at the DTI's "Smart Achievement Awards". ICL's export achievements were also recognised at the Central Lancashire Business Enterprise Awards in late 1997 and the company's chairman and joint managing director, Lionel Gorick, has been made an honorary fellow of the University of Central Lancashire for his outstanding contribution to the industry.

Receiving the award on behalf of Industrial Copolymers, export manager David Whyman said the company was delighted to win this latest award, which took the form of a glass trophy plus a cheque for £1,000.

"It is a great achievement for our export endeavours to be independently recognised. In the past five years, our export sales have increased by 200 per cent and we now sell our products to over 30 countries worldwide, ranging from Saudi Arabia to South Africa. We also have an international network of 18 agents selling our products overseas", he said.
