Facing tough competition from chemists throughout the UK, Industrial Copolymers Limited research and development team, headed by Dr Neil Carter, Research and Development Manager (Plate 9), has won the UK Green Chemistry Annual Award (small medium enterprise category). Industrial copolymers is a specialist manufacture of resins and polymers. The Green Chemistry Network and the Royal Society of Chemistry sponsor this highly acclaimed award.

Neil's winning paper, entitled "Oxazolidine diluents reacting for the environment", surpassed the criteria to "offer significant improvements in chemical processes, products and services through research and commercial exploitation of novel chemistry so to achieve a more sustainable, cleaner and healthier environment as well as creating competitive advantage". In addition, the technology had to be original and of high scientific merit.

Neil's paper highlighted the competitive advantages of Incozol LV, a low viscosity bisoxazolidine curing agent for polyurethane coatings, sealants and elastomers. It details how the product helps to produce significantly lower VOCs than other competitive systems.

Neil is invited to give a presentation of his work at the RSC Conference at Swansea in April, and looks forward to discussing his work with guests of the conference.
