Material characterisation service

Material characterisation service

Keywords BMH Chronos Richardson, Tests, Materials

Each different bulk material has individual physical and chemical characteristics and exhibits specific flow characteristics at every stage of the weighing and handling process. An exact understanding of these characteristics is a critical requirement for configuring a bulk handling system to achieve optimum operating efficiency and customer satisfaction.

For a nominal fee both new and existing customers are now able to use a new service being offered by BMH Chronos Richardson in Nottingham to check the compatibility of new materials with their existing process plant. A small sample of material is supplied along with the necessary COSHH sheets for testing. A series of characterisation tests are then undertaken with precision testing systems to establish the material bulk density, flowability, cohesion and the ability to fluidise.

A full report is provided detailing the results for each material and its individual handling characteristics. This provides the customer with an independent analysis of the material and the data and confidence to move forward with using new materials in their system.

Should the customer still experience difficulties handling a particular material, BMH Chronos Richardson can call upon a vast pool of existing material handling data. These data have been carefully gathered during the last 120 years, from several thousand bulk materials that have been analysed in the company's test centres in Nottingham, UK and Hennef near Cologne, Germany.

These data have been constantly revised and updated building up an enormous material/application know-how.
