French company Melcoplast believes that creating new dyes with special metallic, pearlescent or transparent effects is only part of the greater challenge of ensuring the durability of colours on top-of-the-range packaging. The company, a specialist in masterbatching colours and dyes for plastics, is expert in adapting the most delicate shades to the most high-tech resins. As an independent, family business, it is proactive and attentive to specifications. Together, these qualities are said to have propelled Melcoplast to a leading position in a range of complex applications, including screw-off or articulated container tops, pens, perfume dispensers, and sophisticated packaging for cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.
Since it was founded in 1968, Melcoplast's main priority has been to maintain preferred relations with leading pigment producers. This approach keeps it at the forefront of new market trends and ensures its expertise in the most complex ingredients. The company has also forged long-term links with customers by taking account of their manufacturing constraints and the materials with which they work.
Melcoplast manufactures its preparations on extrusion/granulation lines and mixing mills. The mixers ensure a better dispersion of colours with fewer constraints imposed on pigments and polymers. The company carries out more than 50 colour matchings each week in its formulation laboratory, exclusively on specified polymer bases. Formulas are created using Melcoplast's computerised database of pigments, developed over 30 years of master mix development.
