International and Høegh Fleet Services AS agree Intersleek 700 supply

Høegh Fleet Services AS, have reportedly confirmed their confidence in foul release technology by adopting Intersleek 700 as its first choice fouling control system.

Intersleek 700, International’s specifically designed, silicone elastomer foul release coating is said not to use biocides to control fouling, relying instead on a non stick, low surface energy principle to minimise fouling adhesion.

Successful in service experience with Intersleek 700 since 1997 has resulted in an ongoing supply agreement with environmental, performance and cost considerations, all principal factors in Høegh’s decision.

Commenting on the deal, Leif Høegh fleet manager Stein Eriksen said, “silicone-based antifouling is completely environmentally friendly with no release of biocide into the sea, but it has been regarded as costly to apply”. We have looked into the costs and our comparative calculations between self polishing paint and silicone-based antifouling concludes in favour of silicone.

“This gives us the possibility to save money while choosing the best alternative for the environment. Whilst insecurity has been attached to the endurance of silicone-based paint, we have tested the system for 5 years on the reefer ‘Summer Bay’ and we are confident that this system will perform according to our standards.”

The 23,052 DWT Vehicles Carrier “Hual Triton” was recently converted to Intersleek 700 at dry-dock in Qingdao, China, following a full blast clean.
